Saturday, Nov. 29 · 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. · Old Quebec Street Shoppes
Royal City Community Robotics (RCCR) is excited to support the Guelph Tool Library at Computer Security Day, a free public event focused on online safety, digital literacy, and responsible electronics recycling. The event runs Saturday, Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Old Quebec Street Shoppes (55 Wyndham St. N).
This community gathering is expected to draw 300–400 visitors and features hands-on
learning, demonstrations, and practical guidance for staying safe online.
RCCR Robotics Teams on Display
We’re thrilled to share that three of our teams will be on-site throughout the day:
Fidget Knights LEGO Robotics – École King George Elementary students demonstrating Spike Prime robots and how early robotics builds confidence, creativity, and engineering intuition.
BeaverworX (FRC 2609) – Our Lady of Lourdes World Champions bringing full-size robots, plus our can crusher, and showing how high school students design, build, and program industrial-grade machines.
Rookie FRC Team 11227 – Upper Grand’s New High School Team Our newest FIRST Robotics Competition team, sharing what it’s like to launch a team from scratch and prepare for Canada’s biggest youth engineering program.
Visitors can watch live demos, try out robot controls, and see video highlights from national and international competitions. Bring a friend—kids, teens, and adults all love meeting the robots up close. Bring your empty cans to watch their robot crush and recycle it!
What Else to Expect at the Event
Computer Security Day brings together several community partners:
Repair Café – Free laptop troubleshooting and repair guidance
Guelph Police Services – Tips on avoiding online scams and fraud
Circular Computer Project – Donate used computers for refurbishment
Electronic Recycling Association – Safe recycling for unwanted electronics
Shred-It – Secure paper shredding for $10 per banker’s box
The day blends digital safety, hands-on repair, and environmental responsibility—helping the community learn how to stay safe online while reducing electronic waste.
Why Events Like This Matter
As John Dennis, Director of the Guelph Tool Library, notes, online scams and digital threats are rising rapidly. Community education is essential, and so is developing the technical talent that will keep our city resilient in the future.
For RCCR, this is exactly where youth robotics shines: students not only learn engineering, programming, and teamwork—they become the next generation of innovators who will keep our community competitive and secure.
A Message to Local Parents & Industry
If you’re a parent or work in local industry, come meet the teams. You’ll see firsthand why robotics education matters for Guelph’s future workforce.
Support Guelph Robotics. These students are learning the skills our city needs—automation, programming, mechanical design, problem-solving, and leadership. With your support, we can expand opportunities to even more schools across Wellington Catholic and Upper Grand.
