Dear friends, mentors, students, and partners,
Since 2008, Guelph has proudly been represented in the world of FIRST Robotics by one remarkable team: Beaverworx Team 2609. The powerhouse World Championship–winning team based at Our Lady of Lourdes C.H.S.
After 17 years of FIRST in Guelph, we know it’s time to grow.
This summer, our mentors came together with one bold vision: to expand access to robotics so that more students, more schools, and more families can experience the life-changing impact of FIRST.
We’re thrilled to announce the creation of Royal City Community Robotics (RCCR) — a new non-profit dedicated to supporting every FIRST team in Guelph, and to building a pipeline of opportunity for youth across our city.
Our vision for 2025/2026:
• Double the student size of Beaverworx Team 2609
• Double the number of FRC (high school) teams in Guelph
• Launch three brand-new FIRST LEGO League teams to inspire even younger innovators
• Provide fundraising, advocacy, and mentorship to ensure every Guelph team has the resources to thrive
And the momentum has already begun:
• This fall, we welcome FRC Team 11227 at College Heights
• And our first new FLL Team 73245 at King George
FIRST is more than robots. It’s about teaching students to design under pressure, work as a team, solve problems, lead, market, present, and dream big. It’s about preparing today’s students to become tomorrow’s engineers, entrepreneurs, and leaders. With your support, whether as a student, mentor, sponsor, parent, or supporter, we can make Guelph a true hub of STEM innovation. Together, we’ll open doors for more youth, amplify their voices, and give them the chance to represent our city on the world stage.
So, when you meet the new FIRST teams in Guelph, give them a big welcome. Show them the spirit of our community and why robotics is more than a competition, it’s a movement.
Here’s to an exciting season ahead. Let’s build the future for Guelph’s youth, together.
With gratitude and excitement,
Henry, Laszlo, Martin, and the RCCR Team
